How Technology Can Address Security Staffing Challenges

Written by Sample HubSpot User | March 7, 2022

Museums and cultural properties are facing major staffing challenges with an unprecedented number of positions to fill, often accompanied by tighter budgets. These complex issues have left many museums looking for solutions to enable them to maintain a high level of protection for their priceless collections with fewer people. Technology is one compelling solution to consider.

“Finding and retaining high-quality
security officers in the current environment
has become a significant challenge for all
museums throughout the country. The job market is very competitive so museums are forced to reimagine staffing models and
how we leverage technologies.”

-Austin Sharpe, Director of Security,
Addison Gallery of American Art

Multiply your security force

Many museums and cultural properties are using Art Sentry technology as a force multiplier to fill their security gap. When properly deployed the Art Sentry system enables your guards to cover up to 3-times more galleries.

The system features invisible protection zones that can be custom-drawn around each individual object or area.

When someone breaches the zone, an audible and/or visual alarm alerts them, and most people immediately step back. Security in the command center is also immediately notified by a pop-up alarm with a video clip. Gallery guards equipped with tablets or smartphones can also be automatically alerted with the location and a video clip of the incident.

Tim Main, Security Officer at the Detroit Institute of Art, stated, “The System is like having multiple guards in the gallery at once.”  This always-on, object-level protection ensures that your priceless treasures are fully guarded at all times.

Data drives improvements

Art Sentry also provides valuable data and insights which can be used within operational groups to create efficiencies. You can use the data to modify security guard deployments to focus on securing the areas that need the most attention. This further increases the ability of your guards to be efficient and cover the galleries.

The system also reduces time-consuming reporting by automatically compiling data from each infraction. The data is summarized in key reports which highlight issues that need attention.  These reports are used to develop continual protection improvement strategies.
